Halo Campaign Evolved Drops Today With New Missions

The Master Chief is back on the ring, rebuilt from the ground up and ready for a new generation of Spartans.

Halo: Campaign Evolved launches today, July 28, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Halo Studios rebuilt the 2001 classic in Unreal Engine 5. The result keeps the original story intact while delivering sharper combat, modern controls, and three brand-new prequel missions.

What’s New on the Battlefield

Players get the full original campaign of ten missions, now redesigned with enhanced mobility, refined aiming, and sprint as a standard option. Health packs are gone. Shield recharge is the rule. Button layouts feel current, and vehicles handle more like later Halo titles.

The arsenal expands with nine additional weapons pulled from across the series. Expect the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, Needle Rifle, and Brute Plasma Rifle to appear in Combat Evolved’s levels for the first time. New enemies and more Skulls than any previous campaign open the door to Campaign Remix mode, which randomizes encounters for higher replay value.

Operation: METEORITE Adds Fresh Story

The real addition is Operation: METEORITE, a three-mission prequel set one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. Master Chief and Sgt. Avery Johnson infiltrate a Covenant agricultural ship orbiting the glassed colony of Promise. Their goal is data that could point the way to High Charity.

The missions introduce Sacristan warriors, new allies, and a San’Shyuum Minister of Harmony running bizarre experiments. Halo Studios recommends finishing the main campaign first. Early players call the set action-packed, with strong visual variety and solid foreshadowing, though some found the story secondary to the gunplay.

Cross-Play Co-Op and Modern Conveniences

Up to four players can squad up online with full cross-platform support between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Console versions keep classic two-player split-screen. Progression and customization carry across platforms via Xbox Play Anywhere.

Standard Edition costs $49.99. Premium Edition adds armor and weapon skins plus early access that began July 23.

Early Scores and Community Pulse

Critics sit in the low-to-mid 80s on Metacritic depending on platform, with generally favorable scores. Reviews praise the faithful gunfeel, stunning environments, and respectful modernization. Common knocks include the lack of competitive multiplayer and occasional performance hiccups, especially on base PS5.

Nostalgia is running high today. Fans are sharing setups, hunting Skulls, and diving into co-op. Some online chatter focuses on marine gender ratios and scripted NPC moments, but the bulk of reactions celebrate the return of classic Halo sandbox chaos in a polished package.

Whether you lived the original LAN parties or are stepping onto Installation 04 for the first time, Campaign Evolved delivers the core fantasy with modern polish and just enough new content to keep the fight feeling fresh.
