Overseas demand fuels recovery as Chinese EV giant posts strongest monthly figure of 2026.
BYD finally found its footing in July. The world’s largest electric vehicle maker reported 419,211 new energy vehicle sales last month, up 21.8% from a year earlier and 3.9% higher than June.
It marked the third straight month of year-on-year growth after a long stretch of declines. Exports did the heavy lifting.
Export Engine Roars Louder
Overseas shipments of passenger vehicles and pickups hit a fresh record of 179,841 units in July. That figure soared 124.3% from the same month in 2025 and made up about 43% of total sales.
Domestic demand stayed soft. China sales landed near 239,370 units, still down roughly 9% year-on-year, though the drop was far milder than earlier in the year.
Passenger NEV sales reached 411,072 units. Commercial vehicles added another 8,139, more than doubling from last July.
Premium Brands and New Models Help
Core BYD Auto brand delivered 350,178 vehicles. Off-road label Fang Cheng Bao set a monthly record with 41,213 units, up nearly 191% year-on-year. Denza sold 19,196 and Yangwang contributed 485.
The new Da Tang SUV cleared 10,000 units in the month. Flash-charging models also continued to draw buyers at home, the company said, even as production of the second-generation Blade Battery struggled to keep pace with demand.
Still Behind Annual Pace
Year-to-date sales through July stood at 2,227,722 vehicles, down 10.5% from 2025. The gap has narrowed from the steeper first-half decline. Cumulative NEV sales for the company have now topped 17.3 million units.
BYD has guided for 5.0 to 5.5 million vehicles this year and lifted its overseas target to 1.5 million. Stronger export volumes will need to continue if the company is to close the gap in the second half.
